WEST DEEPING
West Deeping is a charming village where community spirit thrives amongst its 250 residents. Residents take pride in organising and participating in various community social events. It’s a special place to live. The benefits of countryside living, including the local landscape and wildlife, are an important part of life. The village boasts a beautiful 14th-century church, a thriving pub, two water mills and a range of activities to suit many interests. These include visiting theatre groups, a heritage group, bell ringing, folk singing, walking activities and indoor bowls, to name but a few. The village is listed in the Domesday book, steeped in history with no less than 20 listed buildings. The Roman road that runs through the middle of the village adds to its unique character. Wildlife enthusiasts will be delighted to spot deer, cranes, kingfishers, otters, water voles and much more. Above all, West Deeping is a close-knit community that cherishes living in its remaining picturesque countryside with its wonderful waterways. But don’t take our word for it see some of the comments from residents below…
Throughout the UK there are 1,000s of villages, strong communities and all deserve to live in a healthy environment. We rely on those in governance, such as County Councillors, planners in both local and national government to implement ‘a safe and healthy environment’ .

“We have lived in West Deeping for over 15 years. Following our move here we were soon welcomed and embraced by the community. Our children have grown up here enjoying the freedom that country life allows, playing in the surrounding fields and rivers. So much charity work is undertaken by villagers, bulb planting, food bank collections & a very active Jubilee fund to name only a few I have come across.”

“West Deeping has a sense of community, second to none, where the love of this beautiful village & surrounding countryside is shared by all. If you need anything – help, support, ideas, engagement …WD villagers are always there. It’s a village & a community and I’m very proud to be part of it.”

“We have only been here a couple of years but it feels like home already. We’ve met so many people on the numerous dog walks around the village, so happy to be here!”
PROTECT WEST DEEPING
As residents, we recognise the importance of aggregate resources in supporting industry, creating jobs, and driving economic growth. We have lived alongside local quarrying for over 70 years with little to no objection. However, we now face an urgent threat. The unquarried land within our Parish is rapidly disappearing, and recent proposals by Breedon would result in the destruction of over 75% of our parish landscape and environment. This would lead to dust, noise, quarry traffic, vibration, and pollution coming closer to our homes, and expected to continue for at least 3 decades, resulting in over a century of local quarrying.
It is concerning that local quarry operations have consistently expanded and extended for decades. Despite claims of effective mitigation measures, recent extensions by Breedon have reduced stand-off distances from homes to a mere 25 metres. This seems unreasonable, as there seems to be no limit to the area that could be quarried, and quarry operators will continue to uproot.
This campaign is not about NIMBYISM. We urgently need your support to protect what little unspoiled land and habitat we have left in the Parish. Our community is now standing together to say Enough is Enough! Please show your support and stand with us in our fight to protect our health and well-being from the cumulative invasion of local quarrying. We are fighting against more noise, destruction of habitat, threats to river health, quarry traffic, pollution, including potentially dangerous silicon dust.
Communities across the nation look to their governing bodies to protect quality of life and promote and help deliver safe, healthy environments. This is a significant responsibility that falls on officials namely County and district councillors, along with their planning departments. The challenge they face is to find a balance between achieving essential mineral targets while avoiding any adverse health and environmental impacts. The national planning framework criteria includes the 'cumulative effect' on communities. However, after 70 years of local quarrying we believe that these criteria and measures have already been exhausted and threatened, leading us to call for an end to further quarrying, Enough is Enough!
Thank you for your support.
A special sense of community
